Today there was some B.I.G. At SXSW. The popular website MyMixtapez.com hosted a special “Biggie Tribute” dedicated to Notorious B.I.G.
Terminal 6 on 6th street in Austin, TX doubled as an art gallery this afternoon with plenty of personal giant, poster sized pics of Biggie posted throughout. Marketing and Branding guru James Cruz and one of Big’s managers Wayne Barrow helped curate the pictures and were on hand not just to support the event, but to announce an upcoming Biggie partnership with the Jordan brand which will manifest in a B.I.G. sneaker soon.
Also on hand to support and show love were upcoming MC Gizzle, Christian and Justin Combs, and a few of Biggie’s Bad Boy family friends and collaborators Mase and The Lox.
Diddy remembers his proudest moments of the Notorious B.I.G.
“What better place to be but a B.I.G. art gallery with B.I.G. music playing family and friends in the building?” Jadakiss said.
“We all sad he’s gone,” but it’s a time where we gonna celebrate somebody great and that’s Bottom line,” Sheek Louch described.
The Lox took pictures with the fans and then came to the stage where the DJ played mostly Biggie and Bad Boy classics all day. The trio took it to the timeless Life After Death LP and performed the track they appeared on on the album “Last Days”
Unbelievable, Forever
The legends then introduced the new blood, Christian “King” Combs.
After a myriad of freestyles and some new music he’s working, the son of Diddy paid more homage to the man his father was so close to.
“You like how I look flyest nigga on the planet,” Combs rapped accapella. “Got niggas shook when I hop out the Phantom./We the Good Fellas, ain’t no stopping this./I told y’all ‘you’ll see’ like The Lox and Big./ Gold links stay heavy like my pockets is./ I love you Big.”
“I’m blessed to be able to perform here because,” Christian would say offstage. “If it wasn’t for him, I feel like I wouldn’t be a rapper. He inspired me so much.”
