Beyoncé drops out of Coachella

What many Coachella ticket-holders likely feared upon discovering its headliner Beyoncé was pregnant has now proven to be true. The singer has dropped out of this year’s three-day festival and will instead perform in 2018.

In a statement to the Associated Press on Thursday, Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and festival producer Goldenvoice said she was heeding doctor’s orders.

“Following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months, Beyoncé has made the decision to forgo performing at the 2017 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. However, Goldenvoice and Parkwood are pleased to confirm that she will be a headliner at the 2018 festival. Thank you for your understanding.”

Though Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead remain on the line-up as co-headliners, there is no word yet on who will replace Bey.

Had all gone as planned, she would have been the first female act to headline Coachella since Bjork in 2007. It also would have been her first time attending as a billed performer; she appeared on stage with husband Jay Z to sing “Young Forever” when he headlined in 2010 and danced alongside her sister during “True” at Solange’s 2014 set.
