After making history this week with news that he is now the first rapper to ever get inducted into the Songwriting Hall of Fame, Jay Z dusted off the cobwebs from his Twitter account to send out a special message.

“By the way, this is a win for US,” he wrote. “I remember when rap was said to be a fad. We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history.”

With no pen, just drawn from inspiration, Jay Z earned placement into the Songwriters’ community alongside major names like Motown founder Berry Gordy, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, hitmaker Max Martin, and Robert Lamm, James Pankow and Peter Cetera of “Chicago.” In order to quality for this prestigious honor, the music by musicians must represent a large portion of the world’s popular songbook and be recognized worldwide.

In classic Jay fashion, the Roc mogul commemorated the honor with his curated playlist on Tidal, aptly titled, “Songwriting Hall of Fame.” The latest playlist from Jigga serves as a nomination of sorts for those he thinks should also be inducted in the coveted Hall. Names like The Notorious B.I.G., Lauryn Hill, 2Pac, Eminem, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, N.W.A., and more. Let’s hope this year’s historical induction opens the door for more hip-hop greats to get recognized by the Songwriters community.
