Dream pairing of Dave Chappelle & Chris Tucker brings out celebs & NBA All-Stars
Steph Curry, Spike Lee, John Legend and more come to see the comedic legends.
While the NBA has converged on New Orleans to celebrate and showcase their All-Stars, the comedy world definitely got the spotlight shone on two of their very best as well. These two, however, are past being perineal all-stars; they are first ballot Hall of Famers.
Dave Chappelle and Chris Tucker concluded a successful, sold-out, four-night run at NOLA’s Sanger’s Theater. Celebrities such as T.I., A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi White, and Golden State Warrior Kevin Durant had been coming out throughout the week to see the seemingly once-in-a-lifetime pairing of the comedic Goliaths.
On Saturday, Spike Lee, D-Nice, Durant’s GSW and NBA All-Star teammate Steph Curry, Saturday Night Live‘s Michael Che, and John Legend all attended the concert. Donnell Rawlings and Hannibal Buress were among the special guest comics. Meanwhile, the headliners were at the top of their game, with Tucker touching on his relationship with Michael Jackson, garnering huge laughs.
Chappelle was absolutely brilliant and poignant, touching heavily on politics and the state of America in the era of Donald Trump as President.
Chappelle has been very busy out and about in New Orleans this week. He was a presenter at the Global Spin Awards on Thursday and on Friday he and T.I. participated in a jam session with a live band in the courtyard of club Rare Form. One of the great moments was hearing a New Orleans Jazz version of “Rubber Band Man.”
Friday night, after his concert, Chappelle hosted his “Juke Joint” in a barn.
Vince Staples, Michael Rappaport, Chris Webber and Tucker, Estelle, Anthony Mackie and Chance The Rapper were among the star power that Chappelle brought out. Dave joined in as Chance rapped “No Problems.”
