Joining the likes of Beyonce who spoke out against North Carolina’s anti-LGBTQ “bathroom bill” last May and the NBA who pulled its All-Star Game from the state’s city of Charlotte, fellow celebrities are currently doing the same against proposed legislation in Texas, according to Rolling Stone.

Signing a letter in protest, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Janelle Monáe, and Laverne Cox were among 140 celebrities who argued that the Texas Senate Bill 6 and House Bill 1362 “would criminalize and restrict the simple act of a transgender person using the restroom that aligns with their gender identity.”

The letter calls the move “a denial of basic human dignity.”

Though the bill has not yet received a preliminary vote, the letter speaks on behalf of its signees, reading, “It is up to us to commit to doing everything within our power to make sure all of our fans, crews and fellow artists feel safe and welcome wherever we go.”
