Five-time Grammy-winner Adele opened this year’s Grammy with a stirring performance of her mega smash “Hello.”

The singer stood on an illuminated black round stage placed in the center of the audience and wore a black dress with a ruby shine to it. Her vocals were flawless.

“Hello, can you hear me?,” she sang. “I’m in California dreaming about who we used to be / When we were younger and free / I’ve forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet / There’s such a difference between us / And a million miles / Hello from the other side / I must have called a thousand times / To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done / But when I call you never seem to be home.”

“Hello baby,” she said when the song was done.

Seconds later, the show’s host James Corden brought comedy for his opening. His platform, however, would only rise halfway up, so he crawled out and as he walked down the steps, he fell through the stairs. As Corden crawled on the stage, dancers came out and they started a routine, but he told everyone to stop because the performance was a disaster. Corden then went into a rap where he listed his comedic mishaps getting on the stage and name checked several nominees including Beyonce, Drake and Rihanna.

“Rihanna and Drake, both can win eight,” he rapped. “They sound good together, I think they should date.” When someone from the audience told him they already did, he asked. “How did that work out?”
