After Migos struggled to understand how the public could support iLoveMakonnen after coming out as gay, claiming that he only received such backing “because the world is f—ked up,” Migos have clarified their statements.

In an apology posted to Twitter, the band explains that what they really believe to be “f—ked up” is when “people feel like they have to hide.”

Regardless of the truth, it’s a convenient (but not at all unexpected) explanation that puts the burden on miscommunication. Read it below:

“We always been about being original and staying true. Staying true to yourself goes a long way. We are all fans of Makonnen’s music and we wish he didn’t feel like he ever had to hide himself. We feel the world is f—ked up that people feel like they have to hide and we’re asked to comment on someone’s sexuality. We have no problem with anyone’s sexual preference. We love all people, gay or straight and we apologize if we offended anyone.”
