Despite Killer Mike’s opinion of Tiger Bone tasting like the bottom of a Timbaland boot, he and his Run The Jewels partner El-P were all laughs during their recent sit-down with hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN on Drink Champs.

During their interview, the duo talked about their Run The Jewels 3 album going No.1, “touring like a rock star,” the influence of Future, Gucci Mane being the Southern version of Diddy, and the South’s musical dominance.

“The worst thing the South can do is start to self-identify with our own cities and states,” Mike said. “We used to have to identify as a region ’cause it was just like if you talked with an accent, ‘Shit on you, you from the South.’ It was Miami, and Houston set it off. Atlanta and Memphis, Tennessee came as a tier and then you started getting other cities. But when we start to overly identify with our cities, we bad. When we do that, it’s never too good for us. When they go, ‘I don’t f–k with other niggas cause they from Houston and I’m from Atlanta,’ when we do that, that’s when it f–ks it up.”

Later in the convo, Killer Mike talked about how some rappers surprised him.

“I never thought I’d see the day when East Coast MCs emulated southern MCs,” Mike said. “It’s a blessing ’cause it’s all styles, like the old Kung Fu principles, when they used to compare principles of Kung Fu.”
