What’s not to love about Sevyn Streeter? From spending her teens and early 20s performing with all-female groups to penning hit songs for artists like Chris Brown and Usher, this R&B singer-songwriter has paid her dues. Now, it’s her turn.

Sevyn’s debut Girl Disrupted, due this spring, would be her first official solo album. It’s the perfect title for a project in which the theme of self-worth, womanhood, confidence, and life experiences are all evident. The new album includes appearances by Gucci Mane (“Prolly”), The Dream (“D4L”) and Ty Dolla Sign (“Fallen.”) Sevyn also pays tribute to Aaliyah with her song “Before I Do” which samples sounds from the 90s with a touch of modern R&B. Sevyn has no problem with opening up to her fans on past failures, heartbreaks, and struggle which has led her to become the woman that she is today.

After going through a very public break-up and the controversy last year with the Philadelphia 76ers, Sevyn is leaving the past behind and focusing on creating music that can dig deep into her fans hearts. She’s promised fans she will be dropping a new song every month leading up to the album release.

For now, we can sit back and enjoy all that Sevyn has to offer: music that truly captures the soul of a girl who’s been disrupted, but has the courage to let the world see it was not for long. Fans are in for a treat.

Sevyn is currently on her Girl Disrupted tour.
