Jay Z's Swizz Beatz-produced classic "Jigga" was originally for Jadakiss
The super-producer reveals the little known fact on ‘Drink Champs.’
Sometimes artists just a hear beat differently. What may seem like so-so sounding production to one MC can sound like audible money in the bank to another. In the case of the classic Jay Z song “Jigga My Nigga,” Hov snatched up the the Swizz Beatz-produced record after one of Swizzy’s Ruff Ryders brethren declined to use it.
“You know who’s singing the hook on ‘Jigga’? Eve!” Swizz revealed to hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EGN while visiting Drink Champs.
“Listen to the record close, but the original record was ‘Jaaaada,’ and he didn’t want it,” Swizz added, sharing yet another little known fact that he originally produced the beat that turned out to be “Jigga My Nigga” for Jadakiss.
“Jada’ had ‘Jigga’ first. Then ‘Jigga’ came out and we got into some words. [Kiss] didn’t drop a verse on that. Most of my records, when they come out, they’re not who they were for. ‘Bring Em Out’ was for when Beanie Sigel got out of jail. ‘Touch It’ was for Eve. DMX didn’t like [‘Ruff Ryders Anthem.’] So none of my records really went to the people I [originally ] made them for,” Swizz said.
Luckily for X though, he didn’t pass up on arguably his most signature song.
