Swizz Beatz and Kanye West: great friends, multiple time collaborators, fellow music legends and, for one night, competitors. The two battled it out on stage in front of 50,000 plus at Summer Jam 2007 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Swizz had a coveted spot on the concert lineup and wanted to shake things up a bit. He called on Kanye to engage in a hip-hop soundclash of sorts with each legendary producer playing hits to hype the crowd and one-up one another.
“I’m from Chicago, but I do that New York shit too,” Kanye said before playing a portion of Jay Z’s “The Takeover.”
“You on my muthaf–kin turf today, playboy,” Swizzy told ‘Ye in response. “I’m not even going to talk about how we do that New York shit.”
“Drop that shit,” Swizz continued, followed by N.O.R.E.’s “Banned From TV.”
Kanye clapped back with “Stand Up” and Swizz countered with “The Ruff Ryders Anthem.” Kanye was ready though, coming back with Jay Z’s “Encore” and Swizz followed up with “Jigga My Nigga.”
Kanye smiled and told Swizz he needed to make a hit for himself and “Goldigger” came next.
The volley continued with Swizz playing “Money In The Bank.”
