After producing 29 million viewers with its “The New Edition Story” miniseries, BET is looking to create another based on one of music’s most iconic MCs. According to Deadline, the pilot for “Street Dreams” has been ordered and it looks like Nas is going to have his story told.

The title comes from one of Nas’ biggest tracks taken from his 1996 It Was Written album. The LP helped catapult Nas into the spotlight as he told a story about a young man from the Queensbridge projects and navigated his fans through drug-dealing tales and stardom fantasies. The album was considered a strong follow-up to his debut Illmatic, which helped him solidify his name amongst the rap greats.

“Street Dreams” will reflect the same stories told by Nas in his album, as it is being described as “a show about music, family and the trials and tribulations of the rap game.” Additionally, “it tracks the ascent of Nas…as he evolves from young man to crack dealer to rapper to adult.”

The BET pilot will be executive-produced by Nas himself. It will be written and directed by Johnathan Levine, a New York native who has been a part of other projects such as “The Wackness” which won a Sundance Flim Festival award back in 2008.

The deals to get this miniseries up and running are still being finalized but it sounds promising.
