Chrisette Michele walked down a path of criticism this week after word got out about her decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Now the singer wants to let the world know what she aims to be a “bridge” and “voice of the voiceless” despite being met with “stones” in doing so. With an open letter posted to Twitter and Instagram today (January 19), Michele quotes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and lays out her intention behind agreeing to perform.

The open letter was quickly met with questions and criticism from many online.

All in all, Chrisette Michele is set to join Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, Lee Greenwood, and Sam Moore for the PEOTUS’s inauguration celebrations this week.
