Big Sean is no stranger to doing right by fans when they’ve done the same for him.
When “Bounce Back,” the lead single from his anticipated upcoming album I Decided, entered the Top 40 on the Billboard charts, he shared “Living Single” as a ‘thank you.’ And now that the track has climbed even higher on the chart, he’s gifted fans again with “Halfway Off The Balcony.”
Over a somber beat made of consistently plodding piano keys, Sean reflects on the downsides of fame before maintaining his drive.
“I’m the livin’ proof that you don’t need a master’s just to be a masterpiece / People passin’ faster than I’m passin’ weed / My daddy tell me, “Stay strong, son and be the man you have to be / Holdin’ shit down, don’t crash at sea.”
The song isn’t one of the several Sean revealed to have a featured guest during a recent interview with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. He told the host that Eminem would appear on “No Favors” (“Eminem was the only person I heard that could be on that song”); The-Dream assists “Sunday Morning Jetpack,” a song Sean said Kanye West helped make changes on despite not delivering a verse himself; and hinted at yet another collabo with his real-life girlfriend and TWENTY88 partner Jhené Aiko, describing their chemistry as “undeniable.”
