As promised by the film’s producer L.T. Hutton back in November, it has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that the highly-anticipated Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me will hit theaters this summer on June 16, the late rapper’s birthday. He would have been 46 this year.

The film has long been in the works, having seen both Antoine Fuqua and John Singleton sign on separately to direct the project before leaving it entirely and having Benny Boom take the reins. It was also the subject of a $10 million lawsuit from production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis who sued fellow company Morgan Creek for allegedly selecting a lead actor, budget, and production schedule without their approval.

In other biopic news, Lifetime has announced that the network is prepping a biopic on legend Michael Jackson, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Currently in pre-production, the film will be based on the 2014 book Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland from two of Jackson’s personal security guards, Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard. It traces his final years in which he moved from city to city with this three children seeking privacy from the public eye. Starring Navi, who bills himself as the “World’s No. 1” Michael Jackson tribute artist, the film will be produced by Suzanne de Passe, who worked on the 1992 miniseries Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story starring Flex Anderson in the titular role. The film will begin shooting in Los Angeles in February.

Lifetime‘s track record of delivering successful biopics is imperfect; while the one for Aaliyah was largely ridiculed, the films on Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton were better received.
