Anderson .Paak had an amazing run in 2016. He released two critically acclaimed albums, Malibu and Yes Lawd!, and received a handful of Grammy nominations for his work. Now, he’s continuing his hot streak into 2017 by opening for Bruno Mars on the 24k Magic World Tour.
Over the weekend, Mars made the announcement to his Twitter followers. “Congrats to the insanely talented @AndersonPaak,” he wrote, “Him and I bout to hit the road soon! Can’t wait!” .Paak simply replied with, “Pickin out pinky rings.”
Last year, .Paak’s career took off largely thanks to the success of his debut solo album, Malibu, and his joint record with Knxwledge, Yes Lawd!. After performing at festivals across the states, the singer-rapper-drummer became one of the most talked about acts in the industry. By year’s end, he was rewarded with two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Malibu.
It’s currently unclear how many shows .Paak will be opening the world tour, which hits more than 100 shows across the country. According to Live Nation, the highly anticipated tour sold more than one million tickets during its first day on sale.
The international 24K Magic World Tour begins on March 28 in Antwerp, Belgium. In the meantime, watch Anderson .Paak talk about working with Dr. Dre and Aftermath Records below.
