The past few days have been very heavy. Troy Ave was shot and nearly murdered while comedian Ricky Harris and international icon George Michael died suddenly just 24 hours apart. Now, for the third consecutive day, a celebrity has passed. Sixty-year-old actress Carrie Fisher, beloved by legions of fans for generations, has passed away.

Fisher played arguably the most popular big-screen heroine ever, daughter of Darth Vader and twin to Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga. That series of films started in 1979 and are still as hot today as ever.

On Friday, Fisher suffered a massive heart attack while on a plane from London to Los Angeles, just 15 minutes before the aircraft was to land. She was rushed to UCLA Medical Center and and placed in intensive care. This morning, the famed actress, who was a screenwriter and author of eight books, passed away shortly before 9am PT while still in ICU.

In a statement released to the press, Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd said:

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

According to reports, Lourd came to her mother’s bedside this morning with Fisher’s French bulldog.

Prior to her heart attack, Fisher had been on publicity campaign for her book “The Princess Diarist.” Among the revelations in the pages was Fisher’s claim she had a torrid affair with Harrison Ford while filming the original Star Wars movie.

Of course, Fisher and Ford are one of films most celebrated on-screen couples ever as Leia and Han Solo. Just last year, the two helped re-energize the Star Wars franchise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed over 2 billion dollars during its box office run. And this year, in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the prequel to Star Wars, Fisher appears at the very end of the film via special effects. The filmmakers made a digital recreation of her younger self from footage from the first Star Wars. Rogue One has made over 300 million dollars worldwide in just a couple of weeks.

Fans of Fisher will get to see the actress, who’s also had roles in “30 Rock,” “Weeds,” “Entourage,” “The Big Bang Theory,” The Blues Brothers, and When Harry Met Sally, at least for one more round in a galaxy far, far away. She co-stars in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is due out around this time in 2017. Production on that film wrapped in July.
