For fans of A Tribe Called Quest, the party is not over — just yet.
Last month, when Q-Tip announced A Tribe Called Quest’s new album We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, he advised that it would be the legendary group’s “final” album. Following the announcement, Tip sat with Billboard and revealed that plans were in place for one final world tour and confirmed “this is our last record.” If that wasn’t enough, in the same interview he added, “After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.” Despite We got it from Here, in all its critically-acclaimed glory, being recognized as ATCQ’s final curtain call, Q-Tip is now hinting that the show might actually go on.
In an interview with Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 show, he revealed, “Stay tuned for any other incarnation, ’cause we don’t intend on stopping because that was Phife’s M.O. was, like, ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going,’ and now he’s left us with the equation of how do we do it, but we are going to need it, and we’re going to continue.”
Though Tip didn’t provide any details on this “incarnation,” We Got It From Here… was ATCQ’s first album in 18 years, and saw the legendary group score their first No. 1 in 20 years after selling a whopping 135,000 copies in its first week.
