Update: Kanye took to Twitter after his meeting with Donald Trump to provide explanations to his fans and followers.
Original Story (published 12/13/16):
No wonder Kanye West says he would have voted for President-Elect Trump over Hilary Clinton in last month’s election. Trump revealed Tuesday morning that he and the music icon “have been friends for a long time.” Around 9 a.m., Kanye visited the businessman-turned-politician at Trump Tower in New York.
The multi-time Grammy winner entered Trump Tower with an entourage that included a large security detail, and ignored reporters’ questions as he walked into the elevator. Shortly after their 15-minute conversation Trump and West emerged from the same elevator bank and posed for the press. While Trump had a huge grin, Yeezus remained stoic. The hitmaker ignored all questions, simply saying, “I just want to take a picture right now.” West infamously endorsed Trump weeks ago onstage during his Saint Pablo tour stop in San Jose, where he was booed by the audience. Today it was The Donald’s turn to big up Ye.
“He’s a good man,” Trump said of G.O.O.D Music’s CEO before revealing that they talked about “life.”
The two shook hands before separating. It was a busy morning for Trump who also appointed ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State.
“I can think of no one more prepared and no one more dedicated,” Trump said in a statement about the 64-year-old Tillerson. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has also been named Secretary of Energy. No word on whether Kanye will hold any political post yet, as you know West has said he wants to run for president in 2020.
This is Kanye’s first trip outside of California since he came home from spending eight days in the hospital after a reported mental breakdown a few weeks ago.
