OVO Sound is bringing the R&B vibes back to the concert arena. The Summer’s Over Tour didn’t miss a beat, even on the heels of controversial press surrounding Jeremih’s exit. Coming into the sold-out show I posed some obvious questions that I needed to confirm or deny, as Jeremih had spoken out about the authenticity of his set and experience that PND was giving the fans.

So as these questions loomed in the back of my mind, it was PND’s night to prove the haters wrong and bring that vibe that fans have been looking for as he continues to step into the spotlight after crafting so many hits for other artists behind the scenes.

PND tour

Prior to PND hitting the stage, DVSN really set the tone for the night, channeling the R&B spirit of the ’90s and performing some fan favorites off his crucially acclaimed Sept 5th. No amazing light show or theatrics — just real vocals and great music. In a quick set, he smoothly ran through “With Me,” “Too Deep,” “Hallucinations,” and “The Line.”

This was a great way to mellow the crowd out and get everyone ready for PND to hit the stage. With LA being PND’s home we knew he planned to give us a great show. The question on everyone’s mind was Who is he going to bring out? And Is there going to be a Drake sighting? Party hit the stage performing “High Hopes” off of P3, then getting into “Nobody.” One thing that really stood out to me were the lighting and visuals that complemented his set creating an atmosphere that took the listener a step further into the vibe. The atmosphere was set to put the fellas on with their girls or set the tone to pick up a new one.

Party had a few tricks up his sleeve to keep the energy up during his show, as he brought out three of Cali’s hottest new artists. G-Eazy was the first to hit the stage performing “Me, Myself & I.” Shortly after G-Eazy did his thing, Ty Dolla $ign hit the stage performing “Blasé” and “Saved.” After this quick party break, PND got into some music from P2, performing “Sex On the Beach” before hitting us with yet another surprise guest: O.T. Genesis to perform “Cut It” and “Push It.”

Next PND dropped “Recognize.” As the song started playing, the OVO graphic spun in the background, and I knew it was only a matter of time before Drake hit the stage. But shortly after, PND thanked fans for coming out as if the show were about to end. Then Drake crashed the stage, performing “Pop Style” and having a singalong with the audience, as they knew every word, adding more emphasis to why Views is four times platinum. After this, he performed “Fake Love,” where PND and Drake threw a clever shot at Jeremih. Drake proclaimed, “You’re bodying this shit by yourself. You don’t need any f–ing body.”

Drake performed “One Dance” to put the crowd energy at an all-time high for PND to close out the show with “Come and See Me.” The show lived up to the hype and gave PND a great look as he continues to prove himself in the live performance area. What will night two in LA have in store?
