Say what you want about Wale as a man (whom you don’t know personally), but you can never knock his wordplay, creativity, or commitment to making you think with his rhymes. True to form, “Black Is Gold” comes through in perfect timing to shed light on the beauty of black women. The track itself is filled with Folarin’s graceful wordplay over a sample of D’Angelo’s “Lady.”

As for the visual, it’s like a goodie bag full of melanin. It shows black women in a playful light, enjoying time with each other. All of this while Wale directly shouts out out black women who are succeeding, from Issa Rae to SZA. The track and the video are both contradictory to the angry, over sexualized, and aggressive image of black women fed to us through the media. As for Wale, it’s good to see and hear him back in action; every blue moon the fans need a reminder that Folarin is still on the mic. Check out the video below.

“This is for every beautiful queen listening who thinks we forgot you due to this bullshit system.”
