Rapper Big Syke, a longtime friend of Tupac Skakur and collaborator, was found dead at his Hawthorne, California home on Monday (December 5). He was 48.

According to TMZ, Syke, real name Tyruss Himes, is believed to have passed from natural causes, but an official autopsy has yet to be performed. No foul play is suspected. Several reports indicate that Syke struggled with weight issues as well as heart issues.

Fans of Tupac Shakur should be well familiar with Syke, who has contributed to a slew of classics. Among this bank of popular records are “All Eyez On Me,” “Check Out Time,” and “Picture Me Rollin.” The latter record features one of Syke’s most famous verses (“I got key’s coming from overseas / Cost a nigga 200 G’s”). He also appeared as part of Pac’s Thug Life collective for 1993’s Thug Life: Volume 1.

The Inglewood-bred rapper was also a member of the 1990 rap group Evil Mind Gangstas and released solo albums like 1996’s Be Yo’ Self, 2001’s Big Syke Daddy, and the self-titled 2002 release Big Syke.
