It’s that time of the year again. After a productive and much-talked about 11 months, the Recording Academy announced the 59th annual Grammy nominations today (December 6) and, like every year, the internet wasted no time with the outpouring of reactions.
To the surprise of no one, Beyoncé leads the pack this year with a total of nine nods for her landmark album Lemonade, thus bringing the number of career nominations up to 62, making her the fifth most Grammy-nominated artist of all time. Not far behind Queen Bey is Drake, Kanye West, and Rihanna, who have each have eight. Chance the Rapper also steals the show, making history with his streaming-only mixtape, Coloring Book, earning the title as the first free release in the Recording Academy’s history to be nominated for an award — this, after the Grammy Awards officially changed their eligibility rules earlier this year. Then there’s Justin Bieber and his ever-dominating Purpose, which picked up four nominations. With all that said, there was reactions to be had and feelings to be poured on social media.
While the fans had plenty to say, so did the nominated artists.
And like that, the race to Grammy 2017 officially begins. See you next year.
