DJ great J. Period has worked on projects for everyone from Michael Jackson to Lauryn Hill, Notorious B.I.G., Q-Tip, and the Isley Brothers. He’s had music in the films American Gangster and Street Kings and even was the Brooklyn Nets’ in-house spinner. On Friday (December 2) the turntablist gets to see one of his biggest undertakings ever go on sale. Period was brought in to work on the long anticipated The Hamilton Mixtape.

“I’ve been coming up through the years working on mixtape of all stripes with all different types of artists. Now we’re taking it to another level,” Period told REVOLT TV a couple of weeks ago in Queens at the street renaming for A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg. “I was tapped by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Questlove to put together the Hamilton Mixtape. I came in, did my DJ thing, produced a couple of tracks. One with my man Stro Elliott. I’m excited for that because we’re about to show the whole world what a mixtape can really be.”

The Hamilton Mixtape is a labor of love spearheaded by actor, composer, writer, and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda. As you know, the award-winning play Hamilton has been a Broadway sensation for over a year now, and its soundtrack was a double-platinum smash. The Hamilton Mixtape, released on Atlantic records, is a body of works that “remixes and re-imagines” the songs from the play. Busta Rhymes, Nas, The Roots, Dave East, Anthony Hamilton, Ashanti and Ja Rule, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Wiz Khalifa are just some of the contributors to the star-studded lineup.
