In the latest update surrounding Kanye West and his current hospitalization, word is that the rapper and producer suffered a “nervous breakdown” due to the anniversary of his mother’s death.

According to TMZ, sources close to Kanye noted how he became increasingly emotional in the weeks leading up to his UCLA Medical Center admittance. It is being said that this whirlpool of emotions was fueled by numerous things, such as lack of sleep, touring, and his wife’s robbery in Paris.

Kanye West will not be released from hospital, condition still unstable

The said sources also pointed out that the death anniversary of his mother, Donda West, also bothered him. West’s mother died in 2007 and her funeral was November 20, which just so happened to be the same day he cancelled his scheduled Saint Pablo show at The Forum. That following day, Ye nixed the remaining 21 dates of the tour and shortly after was admitted to the hospital for the alleged breakdown.

West remains at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he has remained since November 21. Since then, it has been reported that he battled “extreme paranoia” and depression.

Earlier this week, some reports suggested that West was expected to go home on Monday, however it was later revealed that his condition was still not stable and he was being kept at the hospital under further notice.

In related news, US Weekly is reporting that Kanye, despite his condition, has been trying to work and record music from his hospital bed. “Kanye keeps wanting to work. At the hospital, he requested that recording equipment be brought to the hospital so he can record in his bed,” a source reportedly told the publication. “And he has kept asking to see sketches of his fashion lines. … He continues to want to work and Kim has to keep telling him to rest.”
