Metro Boomin doesn’t really trust the major party candidates for president.
The 23-year-old Atlanta-based producer will host his “Young Metro Don’t Trust Trump” event alongside 21 Savage on November 4 at New York City’s Playstation Theater. Despite his ill-feelings toward the Republican nominee, Metro explained on Monday that he doesn’t support the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. “The Trump concert and merch does not mean I support Hillary Clinton,” he clarified on Twitter. “Can’t really honestly say I trust either one.”
Metro is also selling limited-edition “fuck Trump” merchandise ahead of the event that takes place four days ahead of the election. He’s promised to donate all proceeds from his merch and ticket sales toward establishing a new scholarship fund with Morehouse College. He hopes to send one St. Louis high school graduate to attend the university each year, the same path he took when he was younger.
“With the election coming, I think it’s time to speak out, and not like speak out by getting extra political with this shit, but let people know,” Metro recently told Complex. “So letting y’all know I don’t trust him, you don’t trust him and go ahead and celebrate that.”
“And also, people love coming to concerts and coming together, though at the same time it’s not all about that, but sharing the message and the same view,” he continued. “With it so close to the election, I thought, let’s have this concert and celebrate this and all agree that we can’t have this guy as our President.”
It’s unclear whether Young Metro trusts either third-party candidate, Gary Johnson or Jill Stein, but he’s working to do all he can to inspire other artists to speak out and hopefully prevent a Trump presidency. “You’re supposed to represent our country,” he told the outlet. “You can’t have somebody like that who’s talking about walls and shipping people out and whatever his views are. You can’t have someone represent our country saying stuff like that.”
