Lil Wayne stirs controversy after Black Lives Matter comments go viral

“I am a young, black, rich motherf–ker. If that don’t let you know that America understand that black motherf–kers matter these days, I don’t know what it is.” Lil Wayne appeared on ABC’s “Nightline” for an interview this week and shared some controversial comments about the Black Lives Matter movement. “”I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me. If you do, you crazy as s*it, he admitted.”

In the interview that premiered Tuesday night (November 1), Wayne is questioned about his previous remarks made on Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” series, where he stated that there is “no such thing as racism.” When asked if he regretted the comments, Wayne said he didn’t and then was asked about his thoughts on Black Lives Matter.

“What is it? What do you mean?,” he asked reported Linsey Davis. After getting an explanation on the topic, he said, “That just sounds weird. I don’t know why you put a name on it. It’s not a name. It’s not ‘whatever, whatever.’ It’s somebody got shot by a policeman for a f—ked up reason… Don’t come at me with that dumb shit, ma’am. My life matter, especially to my bitches.”

Later in the interview, the rapper further expressed why he is uninvolved with the central idea of the movement. “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me,” he said, before taking out a red cloth from out of his back pocket. “I’m connected to this flag right f—king here, because I’m connected. I’m a gangbanger now.”

“I’m connected,” he repeated.

Seeing as how Wayne has never been filtered with his political opinions (listen to Tha Carter III‘s “Don’t Get It” and “Georgia Bush”), the reaction to his latest unapologetic comments were aplenty on social media. The opinions were mixed, as some questioned the motive of the interviewer, while others criticized the rapper for not properly using his coveted platform.
