This past August, Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid revealed that A Tribe Called Quest had an album on the way. “It’s an album that [the members] recorded before Phife passed away,” he said on the Rap Radar Podcast. “It’s really something special.” Now, just two months later, we have an official announcement from Q-Tip and the gang.

On November 11, the world will get a brand new album from the legendary group that is set to feature new, and what Tip promises to be “pure, unstepped on pure” material. Taking to Facebook, Q-Tip revealed plans for a follow-up to 1998’s The Love Movement, Tribe’s last album.

The record, which doesn’t have a title yet, features sessions that were inspired by Tribe’s November 2015 reunion performance on “The Tonight Show,” which just so happened to be their first television appearance in 18 years. “The energy for us that night was one that we hadn’t experienced together on stage in some time,” wrote Tip. It was on that night that the group decided to return to the studio.

“As we left 30 Rock I felt the need, we all did, to get back to the studio and start that cook up!! SO WE GOT TO IT!!,” Tip continued. The album was “coming along nicely,” prior to Phife Dawg’s passing earlier this year. Members of the group as well as affiliates like Busta Rhymes and Consequence helped round out the “unstepped on pure” album. “On November 11th, we will complete our Paths of Rhythm…Join us.”

Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way to be unveiled in November

In addition to a new album, Tribe will be honored in their native of Queens next month when Phife Dawg’s legacy gets plastered on the intersection of Linden Boulevard and 192nd. As revealed earlier this week, the famous location where the video for A Tribe Called Quest’s 1991 “Check the Rhime” was shot, will be renamed to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor on November 19. “This is a perfect representation of who Malik was, and what Queens meant to him,” expressed Taylor’s wife, Deisha, in a press release. “Whenever he mentioned Queens, Linden Boulevard at 192, was a focal point of reference, so I am certain he would be pleased with having it renamed in his honor.”

With all that said, for fans, next month is geared to be one special ATCQ holiday.
