Sevyn Streeter was supposed to perform the National Anthem at the Philadelphia 76ers season opener versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, but says she was turned away right before the game was to start because she wore a jersey that read “We Matter.”

“I was suppose to sing the national anthem at the @sixers and @okcthundergame in #Philly but minutes before @sixersorganization said I could not because I was wearing a “We Matter” jersey. WTF!” she posted to Instagram.

The 76ers organization sent a statement to Philadelphia’s local ABC affiliate:

The Philadelphia 76ers organization encourages meaningful actions to drive social change. We use our games to bring people together, to build trust and to strengthen our communities. As we move from symbolic gestures to action, we will continue to leverage our platform to positively impact our community.

The question looming over the start of the NBA season was whether NBA players would protest the National Anthem like some of their fellow athletes in the NFL, and whether the league would be as supportive as the NFL has been of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, among others. Looks like we have our answer.
