Anyone that listens to SoundCloud has probably connected to Ta-Ku’s smooth soulful production & emotional records, but the Australian singer-producer is now stepping into the spotlight with follow Aussie Wafia whose own SoundCloud wave and lead single “Heartburn” caught the attention of Pharrell Williams.

In August, Ta-Ku and Wafia dropped their (m)edian EP, a collaborative 5-song project that represents their relationships with their fathers, and the two are admittedly in a very vulnerable space when presenting the body of work (that’s additionally coupled with a 3-part music video sequence for songs “Treading Water,” “Meet In The Middle,” and “Love Somebody” and a tour that finished earlier this month).

During our sit-down with the artists, Ta-Ku expressed how important it is to be exposed.

“Being vulnerable is probably one of the best things that you can ever do and ever feel because, at that point, I feel that’s when you’re 100% yourself, when you admit ‘I can’t do this’ and your pride is out the window and your humility is up in your face. That is when you’re completely you and everything is stripped away and I feel like that’s what people need to see,” he said.

The music video series is a surreal take on relationships, love, and compromise, and Ta-ku and Wafia worked with David Lynch to direct the visuals in which the duo also make subtle cameos. The project and the videos have served as a therapeutic outlet for each of the artists, as Wafia mentioned that she has not shared the clips with her father yet because he would read through the lines and have to address some of the real issues.

Check out our conversation with the twosome as they talk about working outside of their comfort zone and detail what it means to be the best version of yourself.
