Bobby Shmurda sentenced to seven years in prison

Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in prison on Wednesday (October 19), a sentence that he seemingly agreed to last month when he accepted a guilty plea deal. But it appears the rapper changed his mind when the moment came this week — albeit too late.

While in the Manhattan court room, Shmurda suddenly grew reluctant, telling Justice Abraham Clott that he was coerced into accepting the plea deal by his lawyer and did so against his will.

Shmurda said, “I was forced to take this sentence. I don’t want to take this sentence. I want to drop my plea,” according to the New York Daily News.

He then turned his attention to his lawyer Alex Spiro who stood flustered by Shmurda’s side: “I want to drop my plea and fire you.”

But Shmurda’s final request was in vain; Clott continued on, imposing the agreed-upon sentence.

Back in September, the Brooklyn rapper pleaded guilty to fourth-degree conspiracy and second-degree criminal weapons possession. After the seven-year term, Pollard will be on probation for five years. Had he been convicted at trial, the rapper could have faced up to 25 years to life in prison.
