Future's "EVOL" is the third hip-hop release to earn RIAA certification

  /  09.22.2016

A slew of hip-hop releases arrived in 2016, but according to the Recording Industry Association of America, only three albums have earned award certifications.

Of course, Drake’s monster album Views picked up a certification for going triple platinum. Kevin Gates’ Islah also scored a rare feat this year for going platinum without any album features. Now joining the mix is Future, whose album EVOL has gone Gold with sales over 500,000 copies.

Future’s ‘EVOL’: First Thoughts

RIAA revealed the news on Twitter, pointing out that EVOL was the fourth hip-hop album this year to earn a certification, however among the mix that was noted included Zayn Malik’s Mind of Mine. Clearly, the latter doesn’t fit the bill, so that makes just three hip-hop albums to earn the spotlight.

Future’s EVOL, which released back in February, is the rapper’s 18th RIAA award within his five year career. Since its release, the album spawned a major hit with “Low Life” featuring The Weeknd, which earned a double-platinum recognition earlier this month.

As he currently performs on the road as part of the Summer Sixteen tour with Drake, Future is reportedly prepping a new project this fall, called Beast Mode 16. The album is expected to be a follow-up sequel to last year’s impressive Beast Mode mixtape with Zaytoven. The tape was a product of DJ Esco’s infamous Dubai arrest, which gets told on the penultimate DS2 track “Kno the Meaning.”

According to Zaytoven, the first single for Beast Mode 16 features Drake. Clearly, and like we pointed out earlier, the Future run is far from over.
