After her riveting performance last year for the National Anthem, it comes as no surprise that Lady Gaga enters the Super Bowl halftime show rumor mill. Over the weekend, reports surfaced about the singer potentially hitting the big stage for Super Bowl LI next year. As per US Weekly, the singer was reportedly confirmed for the massive gig and the news arrived just days after Mother Monster released her comeback single “Perfect Illusion” and the release date for her upcoming album, titled Joanne. However, despite how perfect of an illusion that may have been, it didn’t last long.

Soon after US Weekly’s post, an NFL official denied the news via Twitter and stated the publication “ignored my on the record response.” According to Natalie Ravitz, senior vice president of communications for the league, there has yet to be a “final decision” made on the headliner for the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show.

While she did not formally deny the news of Gaga performing, Ravitz elaborated on the ongoing conversations being had for the big show to The Washington Post. “We have had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, at this point we do not have a final decision,” she stated. “We’re happy there is so much excitement about the show.”

Considering her epic showing last year and a new album set for October 21, there’s a good possibility that Gaga may be a front runner for the coveted performance slot. As the wait for the big unveil continues, revisit why Lady Gaga is being considered a potential candidate for Super Bowl LI below.
