Over the last three years, Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s relationship has been anything but G.O.O.D.
In 2013, Cudi parted ways with the label and soon after, expressed some frustration about being “underused” for projects like the G.O.O.D Music compilation Cruel Summer and Kanye’s Yeezus. The two eventually made up and reunited last year for Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak shows in Los Angeles. Cudi even appeared on The Life of Pablo‘s standout track “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.” Be that as it may, the tension built up once again on Wednesday after Cudi called out ‘Ye on Twitter for not giving “a f–k about me.”
“My tweets apply to who they apply. Ye, Drake, whoever,” he wrote. “These ni–as dont give a f–k about me. And they aint f–kin with me.”
Kid Cudi name checks Kanye West and Drake in fiery Twitter PSA
Now, much like we learned during the Wiz Khalifa moment earlier this year, Kanye had much to say in response. So he used the Saint Pablo Tour stop in Tampa Bay as his mouthpiece.
“Kid Cudi don’t ever mention ‘Ye name,” he said to the sold-out crowd. “I birthed you. We all dealing with that emo sh-t all the time… me, [Plain] Pat, Don C. Don’t ever mention ‘Ye name. Don’t try to say who I can do songs with. You mad ’cause I’m doing songs with Drake? Can’t nobody tell ‘Ye who to do songs with! Respect the god!”
As he floated above his soaring platform, Kanye later went on to express feeling “so hurt” and “so disrespected” by Cudi’s comments. “Kid Cudi, we two black men in a racist world. I wore skinny jeans first! I got called names before you, bro! Why y’all gotta be coming at me? This ain’t the end of the Malcolm X movie! I’m out here fighting for y’all! Creatives! Artists! Independent thinkers! Don’t ever mention my name in a a bad manner!”
Meanwhile, over in Oakland for the Summer Sixteen tour, Drake also spoke his piece on the hot topic and even threw in a subtle slight while rapping along to O.T. Genasis’s “Cut It.”
