Kid Cudi is through with “blind loyalty,” ready to remove the “fake” from his circumference, and promises that “the days of fuckery is over.”
As evinced in the quotes above, Cudder set Twitter into overdrive Wednesday afternoon (September 13) after airing out a couple grievances. Before blasting off, he sent out a thank you to artists who have stood by him and helped extend his legacy. Among those names were the A$AP Mob, Travis Scott, Hit-Boy, Audio Push, and SuperDuper Kyle.
With the shoutouts out of the way, the ever-spoken artist then proceeded to go off on the haters. Among them, Kanye West and Drake.
There are a number of interesting points to be made here. For starters, Drake and Cudi have shared a relationship, at least under the public eye, since the beginning of their careers. In 2009, they appeared on GQ’s Men of the Year issue, wherein Drake, Kid Cudi and Wale were featured as the “Gangsta Killers of the Year.” Drake even appeared in the music video for Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness.” In the years since, the two seemingly went separate ways.
As far as Cudi’s relationship with Kanye West, the tweets above aren’t actually a shock. In 2013, Cudi parted ways with G.O.O.D. Music to forge his own path. attacking Kanye West, his former boss and frequent collaborator, is quite the shock. Cudi left the G.O.O.D. Music label in 2013 on amicable terms to forge his own path. In a 2014 interview, he expressed feeling “underused” with a feature on Yeezus (“Guilt Trip”) that he says he never actually gave Kanye permission to use. “Same deal with the G.O.O.D. Music album, the compilation. Had I not given Kanye “Creepers” my only presence would’ve been on that one song,” he stated in the said interview. Despite parting ways, the two reunited last year for a pair of 808s & Heartbreak shows at the Hollywood Bowl and recreated their chemistry on “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” and “Waves,” the obvious two standouts from Kanye’s The Life of Pablo. “It was a beautiful thing to clear the air about,” Cudi would tell Billboard earlier this year about their reunion. “I’m really happy to be back working with my friends.”
