Before the eighth incarnation of Electric Zoo returns to New York City/s Randall’s Island this Labor Day weekend (Sep 2-4), anticipation is brewing for some of the lineup’s most revered acts. But where were these now-headliners at the early stages of their career?

Louis The Child

In just a year’s time, Chicago-based production duo Louis the Child have skyrocketed to main stage stardom after the release of “It’s Strange” featuring K. Flay, sparking the future bass duo to perform at events like Coachella, HARD Summer and Lollapalooza. This #tbt photo was retrieved from their archives playing one of their first shows at a local community house.

Gareth Emery

Trance titan (and DJ Mag denouncer) Gareth Emery has crafted some of dance music’s classic anthems such as “Concrete Angel” and “Sanctuary” but it was his 2002 breakout track “Mistral” that landed the then-budding DJ/producer support from Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, and even Paul Van Dyk who premiered the record during one of his sets. The above photo was taken during one of Gareth’s gigs soon after the song was released.

Eats Everything

Almost 20 years ago, Eats Everything was drunk off his ass celebrating his 18th birthday in Bristol and performing at Cafe Blue where he says he was force-fed an ungodly amount of vodka and absinthe. Round of applause for the composure here.

GTA

While this doesn’t appear to be a pre-fame snap, eclectic Miami-bred DJ duo GTA were introduced to a whole new audience after being appointed opening duties for Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour back in 2013. They’ve since gone on to work with A-Trak, Diplo, Skrillex, Flosstradamus and What So Not, as well as produce the track “Help Me!” for the Star Wars Headspace album.
