When the REVOLT staff saw the video for Cam Anthony’s “How Can I Forgive Ya,” we were thrown. Here he was sounding like a grown man, but looking like a middle schooler. It was jarring, but we know a hit when we hear one, and this song is a banger!

Camren Anthony Sherman was born and raised in Philadelphia. His parents first realized his gift at age 4, and like many soulful singers before him, Anthony began to develop his talents in church. At 9, he auditioned for America’s Got Talent, and then he began making a lane for himself the way aspiring artists do these days: posting cover videos to social media. He made it to The Ellen Show, where Dr. Dre saw him and signed him to his Aftermath/Interscope record label.

Now 15, Cam has released his official debut single, which is “How Can I Forgive Ya.” The catchy song bridges soul music vocals over the current style of R&B trap-influenced beats. Cam’s voice is strong and commanding, and the lyrics relatable — it’s the tale of a young person getting their first taste of heartbreak, an experience we all remember too well. A debut album is on the way next.

My sound in five words or less: Soulful, Artsy, Heartfelt, Classic, Natural!

Best part of making this video: The best part of making the video was that I was able to cast my best friend the as the DJ in it! Her name is DJ Young 1, and she has such a big spirit! It just makes you happy! Also, it was great having my amazing team there to help me!!

What inspires your art: Andrew Stanton (director/producer at Pixar) said that “Great Art Inspires Great Art” and I feel like that is very true. I am inspired every day by other artists. Not just musicians, but dancers, rappers, poets, etc.

Explain the concept of the song in one sentence: How Can I Forgive you when you betrayed my trust and took my love for granted?
