It still feels like yesterday, but ever since Rihanna entered the scene with “Pon De Replay” over a decade ago, music’s undisputed bad gal has routinely been setting the bar and crossing them on each and every release. Her first album, Music of the Sun, arrived on this month 11 years ago and here we are eight albums later and she continues to eclipse her previous work. Simply put, if the lane doesn’t exist, she makes it.

All of those accomplishments lead to her receiving the coveted honor at this year’s MTV VMAs, the Video Vanguard Award, named after the one and only Michael Jackson. As a reminder of her epic (and ongoing) run, the pop diva reminded the world just why she deserves recognition alongside names of past Video Vanguard honorees (Beyoncé, Kanye West, Madonna) with an epic career-spanning medley.

Performing songs that not only stand out in her catalog, Rih Rih delivered the very records that have reshaped pop music over the last decade and change. And if there was one line to summarize her medley, look no further than “Pour it Up,” where she sings: “Got more where that came from.” Dipping into her bag of greatest hits, the singer performed “We Found Love,” “Please Don’t Stop the Music,” “Work,” “BBHMM,” and just about enough smashes to turn the VMAs into her very own greatest hits show.
