It’s been nearly three years since Lorde dropped her debut album, her applauded unique take on electropop, Pure Heroine.
Since then, she’s won two Grammy Awards, curated a Hunger Games soundtrack, been named one of the world’s most influential teenagers by TIME, was listed in Forbes‘ “30 Under 30,” and become a standout voice on feminism and public image.
But some fans still just wanna know where the next album is. And one asked her as much on Instagram yesterday, although not in the politest of ways.
When Lorde posted this photo, the user wrote: “Do you think we will ever get another album or should we just give up on you as an artist?”
And much to our surprise, and likely theirs, Lorde actually responded with a thinly-veiled clapback that basically stated she works on her own time, not anyone else’s:
“give up on me if you want to! I’m an artist, I write a record when I have enough special stories to tell, and it’s all me, every melody every lyric, not some team who just start the machine up every eighteen months like clockwork. the record is written, we’re in the production stages now. I’ve worked like a dog for a year making this thing great for you guys“
