A seemingly jet-lagged Kölsch (born Rune Reilly Kölsch) had just flown in from an overnight gig in San Francisco—the first of his four-city mini-tour in the U.S.—after hopping on a direct flight from Ibiza the night before when he divulged on the topic of isolation, recently addressed by high profile DJs in The Guardian. He said, “DJing is a life of contrast – one minute you’re playing in front of thousands of people, next thing you’re alone in a hotel room. It’s a very odd way of living.”

Now, just hours away from his set at Sound nightclub in Los Angeles, Kölsch stopped by the REVOLT studios to discuss his experiences with solitude dating back to his childhood, how it inspired each one of his albums (as well as the most recent Grey EP), the future of Space (one of Ibiza’s largest and oldest clubs), the White Isle’s changing clientele, and how to approach the war on drugs at dance music events.
