California’s inaugural Day N Night Festival was a much-needed addition to the summer festival lineup this year. Orange County’s Observatory is known for being a spot where artists win over fans before blowing up and this past weekend concertgoers were able to experience some of the most promising acts the venue has seen.

The line-up offered something for all types of hip-hop fans. On Day 1, brothers MadeinTYO and Royce Rizzy created a wave when “Uber Everywhere” and “I Want” rang off. (The duo also talked to us about their fast success and MadeInTYO’s new mixtape.) Lil Yachty crushed the stage with his Technicolor hair and contagious positive energy. Resident rock star Lil Uzi Vert‘s performance of monster records “Money Longer” and “You Was Right” left me wondering which was more lit: watching the fans react to his music or watching him incite one wavy dance move after another. Post Malone‘s set smoothed the crowd effortlessly with “White Iverson” and “Too Young” before YG turned things back up with all the West Coast hits from My Crazy Life.

Da$H hit the Weed Maps stage with a standout performance of “So Cold.” Fresh off their own ‘Too High to Riot’ tour, Dreamville’s tag team Bas and Cozz kept the crowd moving. And Atlanta super-producer Sonny Digitial gave us the scoop on his foray into rap and his upcoming EP with Hennessy.

Once headliner A$AP Rocky hit the stage, the Mob‘s presence was felt heavy. Pretty Flacko commanded attention with his stance and some mind-blowing visuals that incited the feeling of being inside a ball of static electricity. Coming out to “LSD” and then switching gears to “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye,” once Rocky pressed the gas pedal it was non-stop energy and included surprise cameos from A$AP Ferg, Playboi Carti, and Uzi.

Young Thug says “Jeffery” is the beginning of a new chapter_

Day 2 of the festival was all gas and no brakes as we saw awesome early performances from GoldLink, THEY., Flume, Vic Mensa, and 21 Savage. Bryson Tiller had the audience in awe as he serenaded them with fan-favorites “Exchange,” “Right My Wrong,” and “Don’t.” Considering he sold out a show at the Observatory back in 2015, the personal set brought his success full-circle. But the energy rose to another level when Travis Scott crashed the stage to perform “Pick Up The Phone” and “Antidote.”

Moving onto the final performer of the festival, the crowd chanted for Young Thug (who, fresh off of hopping out of his Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, told us he’d be going by his real name Jeffery). His eyes were fixed on having a monster set in front of the 15,000 person crowd. Bringing out Birdman for “Lifestyle,” the audience was on auto-pilot as they rapped all the words to the rest of Thugga’s hits.

With an all-star line up like this, Day N Night will certainly rival for the title of the nation’s top festival for emerging hip-hop talent.
