MadeInTYO talks brother Royce Rizzy's support, sharing success & his new mixtape

Brothers’ teamwork is tantamount to their triumphs.

  /  08.18.2016

MadeInTYO isn’t signed to a major label but, as proven within the last year, that’s no longer synonymous with success. With his Soundcloud-turned-streaming slamdunk single “Uber Everywhere,” the 24-year-old rapper—whose name stands for ‘Made In Tokyo’ and is inspired by the teenage years he spent living as a military brat in the city of Yokosuka, Japan—is yet another example of how virality can be homegrown. And in MadeInTYO’s case, ‘homegrown’ is quite literal.

If you ever spot the Altanta-based artist, there’s a chance that his brother Royce Rizzy—fellow rapper, leader of their Private Club collective, and most emphatic support-system—will be alongside him. The two appeared on track “Had To” together earlier this year, but spent the first half of the summer touring separately.

Still, when REVOLT caught up with them at California’s Day N Night festival over the weekend, they detailed how their teamwork and mutual appreciation for each other has resulted in their collaborative success.

MadeInTYO also detailed the production behind his new mixtape Thank You, Mr. Tokyo and reveals why it’s “low-key executive-produced” by his brother Rizzy.

On finding and experiencing success together:

MadeInTYO: It feels normal. I don’t really question what he’s got going on and what he tells me. He told me to come to Atlanta, he told me to come to L.A., he told me, “Yo, I’ma put this record out for you.” Ten days later…it’s everywhere. He just believed in me.

Royce Rizzy: I see it. Like, I see it every day. I tell him before we walk into spots, like, “You’re a star.”

‘Thank You, Mr. Tokyo’ drops tomorrow, Friday, August 19.
