Jared Evan is a singer, songwriter, record producer and rapper.
But back in 2009, he was simply at intern at The Fader in New York City. During his time there, however, he befriended acclaimed music video director Rik Cordero. Cordero and Evan soon began creating visually stunning music videos to complement Jared’s sound. These visual were then circulated to music executives and within weeks Evan had several major label offers.
He eventually signed with Zone 4/Interscope with the support of Polow Da Don and Jimmy Iovine. Later that year, Evan was featured in Billboard as an “Under the radar artist with the potential to break into the big time.” Two years later, in the spring, Jared joined One Republic on a nationwide tour.
At the end of 2011 though, Evan officially opted out of his record contract. He cut ties with the label after he expressed they were not supporting his true vision.
In 2012, having formed a cult following, Evan released his debut EP titled, The 4th Chapter, which was released for free online. His song “Charlie Brown” peaked at number 1 on Billboard’s emerging artist chart.
A year later, Jared released his collaboration project with acclaimed DJ/producer Statik Selektah, Boom Bap & Blues. It featured artists like Joey Bada$$ and Action Bronson, among several others. It was originally released as a free album through Jared’s website. Days later, the album debuted at No. 20 on the Top R&B/Soul charts and within a couple of hours, it shot to No. 10. Boom Bap & Blues is some of Jared’s best work and has become critically acclaimed.
