“Goodnight Gotham” was probably the last ANTi track fans would have expected Rihanna to give a video treatment. For starters, it only appears on the deluxe version of the album. It clocks in at just 1:28. And, to be honest, it’s more of a reworking of Florence and the Machine‘s “Only If For the Night” than a song that truly belongs to Riri.

But it’s been over three months since she dropped her last visual and she’s been busy traversing the earth on her ANTi world tour, so maybe this video is just a gift, an appetite-whetting “thank you” to fans because, upon watching it, it’s clear that it’s all for and about them.

While some celebrities are out here canceling meet-and-greets, Rihanna is willing to throw both caution to the wind and herself, quite literally, into the arms of her most-loyal strangers.

In the clip, which is trimmed to be even shorter than the already-truncated song, Rihanna leaves a photo shoot early to surprise her fans at Paris’ Trocadero Square by running, head-first and unguarded and without disguise, directly into their mob.

What feels like every celebrity’s most frightening fan encounter, Rihanna does with a generosity and smile so big, it makes for one plainly powerful and enjoyable moment.
