Will Tory Lanez be the next artist to go platinum with a featureless album?

In the past, only five albums have accomplished the feat of earning a platinum certification without guest features. The last album to do so was J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Now the next up to bat will be Tory Lanez, who is stepping on rare terrain with his forthcoming debut album, I Told You, which is set for an August 19th release. At 14 tracks, the album is featureless and includes the hit singles “Say It” and latest earworm “Luv.”

The Toronto singer already has a platinum plaque under his belt for “Say It” and on July 29th he will head out his headlining tour in support of the new LP. In addition to unveiling the tracklist, the singer also released a brand new single, titled “Flex” (not to be confused with his collab with Joe Budden as well as A$AP Ferg).

If this no-features plan stands, Tory’s race to score a platinum LP without any guest appearances will see him fighting to join a small club that already features LL Cool J’s Bigger and Deffer, Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique, Wu Tang Clan’s Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers), and Vanilla Ice’s To The Extreme.
