According to DJ Khaled, and the title to track three on his forthcoming album Major Key, Nas’ long awaited album is done. Since leaving off with Life Is Good four years ago, the critically acclaimed release that earned a coveted “XXL” rating by XXL, Esco has been relatively low-key on the solo music front, swapping for guest appearances on songs by the likes of Jay Z, Justin Bieber, and Madonna to name a few. But now with word that his album is finished, Esco seems back to the swing of things as his first solo cut in months arrives via the Erykah Badu-assisted track “The Land.”
Featured on the soundtrack for the film of the same name, which is executive produced by Nas and due out on Friday (July 29), the stark cut finds Esco painting a scene of pain or retribution. “Either you busy living or busy dying,” he raps. The symphony in the background, violin strings and all, allow the Queens legend to wax signature poetics. “Life is a test, try not to fall between the cracks and the cracks are so dark and the dark seems more appealing than the land.”
Both “The Land,” which stars Badu, Machine Gun Kelly, and Michael K. Williams, and its soundtrack arrive July 29th.
