Dr. Dre was handcuffed outside of his home and given a citation on Monday (July 25) after a dispute that left an accuser claiming the music mogul pulled out a weapon.
The incident took place in the driveway of Dr. Dre, born Andre Young, at around 11:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies said they were called to the home of the Beats mogul after a man claimed he pointed a gun at him. The man said he had stopped in front of Young’s home and was ordered to leave by Young, who had a handgun, as per the police release. Due to the nature of the call, Dre was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car while they looked into the incident. He was cooperative, consented to the search and denied pulling out a gun. After their search did not turn up a weapon, Dre was released.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, Dre said the man parked directly in front of his home blocking the driveway, which led the superstar beatsmith to ask him to leave. Dre told deputies that the man drove away, but later returned and parked near the same location. When the rapper pulled out his cell phone to begin filming the man, he drove away.
Dr. Dre was not arrested or taken into custody. He also denies ever threatening the man. The accuser initiated a citizen’s arrest for brandishing a firearm, which resulted in the citation.
