Ten years ago today (July 25), Pharrell released his debut album In My Mind. And while it may have not achieved the same commercial success that much of his commissioned production had prior, it still quite heavily influenced at least one then-aspiring artist: Tyler, the Creator.

The rapper just penned an open letter to the super-producer to celebrate the LP’s anniversary and in addition to candidly revealing that it “shaped” him and is the reason he started Odd Future, Tyler also shared which Skateboard P song he doesn’t think he can ever compete with, which he thinks is the “worst” in Pharrell’s discography, why he felt the album spoke “directly” to him, and how it allowed him to “embrace being different.”
