When D.R.A.M. dropped “Broccoli” earlier this year, it wasn’t an instant success—not like “Cha Cha,” which is what ultimately introduced him to mainstream audiences after Beyoncé used the song in one of her Instagram posts.
But on the charts, “Broccoli” has actually surpassed Bey’s vouched-for choice. It’s sitting at No. 39 on Billboard’s Hot 100, a list “Cha Cha” never made it to despite the Queen Bey’s stamp of approval, proving that, hey, if a song is backed by a bouncy, bright keyboard, we’ll all forget how NSFW the lyrics are. And the video is no different.
In the visual for “Broccoli,” D.R.A.M. and Lil Yachty hit a house party, the highway, and a muddy stream—and they cheesily do so via a traveling piano (a la Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”). And while that all sounds playfully-PG, keep in mind the men are mostly, if not always, surrounded by a seemingly endless bevy of booty-twerkers. So there’s good reason they look so damn happy. When Yachty isn’t playing a plastic flute, he’s donning jumbo sunglasses to do his best Stevie Wonder impression, while D.R.A.M. wears a ridiculous, oversized, broccoli-shaped bonnet.
The video is also spliced with awesome still photography. Join the party below.
