Last month, when Tom Morello said his band Prophets of Rage would be causing a “ruckus” at the Republican National Convention, we believed him. In reality, the supergroup (comprised of Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and others) ended up leading a peaceful march after their performance on East 47th in Cleveland, Ohio. And that’s just as powerful.

The free gig went down at the End Poverty Now! rally and once the band hit the stage, the crowd — full of people of all ages and color — jumped and jammed emphatically. Activists spoke in between the acts about their respective causes, from water crises to health insurance, and many people were spotted handing out free food and water to nearby protesters who held signs that read, “Stop murder by police,” “America was never great,” “Healthcare is a human right,” “Stop mass incarceration” and “Love and kindness are good.”

After performing, Prophets of Rage immediately gathered their audience to start the March for Economic Justice that ended at Perk Plaza. Despite there being no violent acts, a great number of police followed the march all the way.
